Changing RunLevel in Feisty Fawn

Posted by Ameya on October 10th, 2007 filed in linux, ubuntu

I never checked the inittab file in Feisty till today. One of my friend.. Nil asked me how can you change the RunLevel for Ubuntu Server. He is very senior to me in knowledge in experience so I was quite surprised on that question from him. But I confidently answered its inittab file. But then he replied that he dont have that file in his server which is running Feisty. I immediately checked mine and found it missing. While googling on this issue I found that Ubuntu has migrated to ‘upstart‘ from the traditional sysvinit utility.

The inittab file is now replaced by multiple files under /etc/event.d/. directory. inittab file was quite easy to handle than the new upstart utility with the different files under /etc/event.d/. Dig more into this directory to know more on how to change the RunLevel.
